Furniture Arrangement and the Flow of Your Room

Arranging Your Living Room Furniture
Better Homes & Gardens- Arrange living room furniture can be difficult when you don’t know what you’re doing. The flow might not be right, or it just doesn't feel right. Well, here a few tips to keep in mind to help you make your living room feel comfortable and make the most of your living space.

Arrangement Tips

You may need to have a pretty good idea of how you would like the flow of your room to keep. Since this is a key notion to have, understanding the foot traffic in and out of your living room can help you to have a much better idea of how to start arranging or rearranging your furniture.  Keep in mind how you want your room to function and what rooms are connected to the living space. Is this going to be a place for a family game night or is it going to be more of a place for everyone to get together and watch the big game or the latest hot show? This will help to determine the focal point of the room. If it is a family game night, then a coffee table surrounded by chairs would be a great focal point to design the room around. If it is a big game or show to be watched, then the focal point will most likely be the entertainment center. Other focal points to consider are picture windows, fireplaces, or other fixtures built into your home. A fireplace can make for a great place for the family to gather around and relax on a cold winter night. You will want to arrange the chairs in a room to help encourage interaction. So the seats should face each other and be pulled away from the wall to help people connect.

Oh Noes! Bed Bugs!

Bedbugs are small, oval, brownish insects that live on the blood of animals or humans, according to an article by WebMD. These little suckers are about the size of an apple seed when they are fully grown. But, after a good feeding, their bodies swell and are a reddish color.
Female bedbugs can lay hundreds of eggs, each of which is about the size of a speck of dust, over a lifetime. One good thing about these little pests is they do not transmit diseases.
These little boogers can enter your home through luggage, clothing, used beds and couches… Their flat bodies make it possible to hide in tiny spaces, about the width of a credit card. So think about those thin seams in your bookshelf, bed frames, and headboards. They especially like those spots for easy access to their food, us. Over time they can spread throughout your home.
They are mainly active at night. They feed three to ten minutes until they become engorged. Their bit is mostly painless, but they do tend to become itchy. Some people may attribute the itching to other causes like mosquitoes. Some signs that may indicate you have bedbugs include:
  • Blood stains on your sheets or pillowcases
  • Dark or rusty spots of bedbug excrement on sheets and mattresses, bed clothes, and walls
  • Bedbug fecal spots, egg shells, or shed skins in areas where bedbugs hide
  • An offensive, musty odor from the bugs' scent glands

If you have found signs these pests are present, remove all bedding, check and wash then in hot water, also dry them in the highest and safe drying setting. You also may want to check inside books, telephones or radios, the edge of the carpet, and even in electrical outlets. Hiring a professional pest control is always a good idea or use products that can be used safely in all rooms. Just be sure to follow the directions correctly.

Seasons Are Changing - Outdoor Furniture

Texas Fall Days: Gather on the Patio

Depending on where you live in the huge State of Texas, you can have an extended summer that can last into December. I know I have experienced my fair share of mid-80s days in December over the past couple of decades. Throughout the Fall, there can be quite a few mild weekends where you aren't forced to stay inside to beat the heat. These times are great opportunities to be outdoors and do some work or have some fun. Whether you work or play, everyone needs a great place to sit and enjoy some relaxation. In my opinion, there is no better way to achieve this goal than to have a great set of outdoor furniture.

Decisions in Purchasing Patio Furniture

If you have never bought any outdoor furnishings, there are a few things to decide before purchasing any items. Consider these questions. Will the items be covered by a structure? How much sunlight will they be getting? Will I be entertaining many guests? After you have answered these questions, you can move forward to the shopping stage. With the answers in mind, you will be able to view the selection and make a smart purchase for your home and family.

Where to Find Outdoor Furniture for Sale in Abilene, TX

There are many options for places to buy patio furniture, especially with the internet. Typically, outdoor furniture is built to hold up to the elements that come with nature. When you order online from somewhere that's not local, you can run into trouble if the items aren't what you expected. They could be poor quality and wear out in the sun way sooner than what is reasonable. The hassle of returning large items via mail is a big one.

At the Pierce Gallery Furniture stores in Abilene, we pride ourselves on giving good hometown service to our customers and having true discount prices on our stock. If you are looking to add or replace some items in your home, visit us online to find the store nearest you!

Homebody? No Problem-o

Nothing Like a Weekend at Home

During the week, most people tend to stay in and around the house. After work, the desire to go out and play may not be there. On the weekends, however, the inclination to go out and have fun around town will be much stronger. Sometimes, that desire to go out and pall around with friends or family just isn't there. That's when the names come out. If you decide to spend a weekend lounging at home, you may get called a couch potato, stick in the mud, or even an introvert.

Technology, Furniture, and Good Veggin'

No matter what people say, it can be healthy to have some "me-time". Technology has really come far in its advances on the entertainment front. No longer are we shackled with the chains of the video rental policy. One click of a button and you can watch almost any movie you desire. Of course, with all good things (even water) you can have too much of it.  However, since you may be spending more time cruising Netflix or Hulu, you may notice that the couch is becoming less and less comfortable. Perhaps you may notice that your old entertainment center can't contain your Blu-Ray player, game system, tv, and all the other accessories. If your furniture is giving you concerns, it may be time to look for some new items for your home.
