How do You Use Your Sofa?

In my household, the sofa is used for a plethora of different things. With all the different ways it is used, it's no wonder why there is a bit of wear and tear on the poor thing. While I know that there are probably many people who only use their couch to sit on, I also figure there are quite a few people like me and my family. 

The Myriad Sofa Uses

One of the primary ways we use the couch is as a place to sit, of course. However, while I do enjoy having a family meal while we are all seated at the dinner table, the living room tends to become the dining room, more often than not. Of course, with all the eating going on, stains and additional wear and tear come hand in hand with enjoying dinner and a movie at the same time. 

While it may be more of a weekend thing, the couch also gets used as a bed for naps. I can come in from mowing or from grocery shopping to find someone snoozing while they try to recover from staying up too late the night before. Inevitably, a squabble will break out seeing as one child is taking up the lion's share of the prime real estate in front of the TV. Why they don't just go take a nap in their room, I will never understand. 

One of my older children has begun to lay out across the sofa as she talks about the pressing problems of her social life. I will sit in a nearby armchair and listen as the teenage issues are laid out in front of me. It's my pleasure to listen and give advice. I can only hope that I am helpful since being a teenager now is so different than when I was younger. I guess, in a way, the sofa has become a lot like a therapist's couch. 

Last but not least, my younger children and their friends use it as a plaything. From pillow forts to safe places to stand when the floor becomes lava, I can find the sofa stripped of the cushions as a game is played. Normally, I walk in like an ogre and break up the game because that's where I draw the line. Maybe that's mean, but I figure they can go pretend that the grass is lava.

How many times have you been in a situation where you need a little extra light. From working on cars to doing some intricate repair work that requires one of those precision tools, I have been in that circumstance too often. I even realized, after all these years, why my dad would get so mad at me when I wasn't holding the flashlight correctly as he inspected for the oil leak on the old Plymouth. However, there are other times where having a little extra light that's closer than the ceiling is really helpful. It's not always about work. 

Reading and What Not

Maybe I am too old-school, but I still enjoy reading from an actual book. Not that there is anything wrong with reading from a tablet, it's just I really enjoy the smell of books and turning the pages. I even enjoy looking at the collection of books as they sit on the shelves of my bookcases. That is one thing you can't replicate if they are all downloaded onto a tablet.  Although I do admire someone who doesn't feel like they have to have a visual reminder of what all they have read in their lives. 

Before I digress for too long, back to the subject at hand; lamps. As I get older, I find I need more and more light. Not too long ago, just changing the bulbs to a higher lumen worked and I wouldn't have to strain my eyes. Now, it seems I need a lamp by my reading chair no matter what time of the day. I also like to do puzzles and play cards and having that little extra light from a lamp really helps keep me from straining my eyes.

Spring is in the Air (maybe...)

This winter seems to be trying its best not to be forgotten. What I mean by that is just when we think we don't have to worry about coats, it almost gets back down into the 30's again. With this last cold spell that has come through, hopefully, it will be over with. I, for one, am about to have to chop more wood if spring doesn't quit lollygagging around. 

I know this is Texas that we are talking about so, I'm no stranger to weird weather changes. However, now that spring is here, for the most part, you may be spending time outdoors. You may not be getting a very restful night sleep because of your mattress. If you are tossing and turning at night or not sleeping very well it could be because your mattress is worn out.
