Recliners and Football Seasons

Recliners and Football Seasons

If you like professional football, then by now, you have most likely heard about the XFL. This new slew of teams will add 10 extra weeks of regularly scheduled games. Also, there will be a couple of playoff games and then a championship game. All in all, this is a good thing for people who love to watch the brutally poetic sport of football at the professional level. Admittedly, I have only watched a couple of games and so I have not quite decided on which team I am going to root for. Some people may think this is fickle, but I have always enjoyed rooting for teams who have a mascot that I enjoy. It seems to me, considering my nerdy side, that I should cheer for the Seattle Dragons. The only problem that prevents me from doing so is that I can't stand the Seattle Seahawks. I know that they have nothing to do with each other, it's just a hang-up in my head. Maybe I should just stick with the closest team; the Dallas Renegades.

A lot of talk about the XFL centers around how the rules have been altered from traditional NFL rules to make the games faster paced. While there are a lot of rules that differ, one thing stays the same; you want to be comfortable while you watch your team. If you don't have a comfortable recliner or sofa to sit on while you watch the game, it doesn't matter how fast-paced it can be. Unless you are buying tickets to a game, you can sit in the comfort of your own home and enjoy this new second season of professional football while sitting in the best recliner seat in the house.

Furniture and How Light Affects It

Sunlight on Your Furniture

How do you have your furniture positioned in your house? Chances are that some of the items in your home are in contact with direct sunlight. Furniture that sits in the sun is fine if they are designed to be that way. The materials used to make actual outdoor furniture vary greatly from the ones used to make indoor furniture. If they are made to go in your backyard, they are designed to withstand harsher climates, typically. As for your indoor sofas, recliners, and tables, they won't hold up to the sun's rays very well.

Bleaching Fabric

Most homes have several windows and that means that as the sun makes its way across the sky, chances are that light is beating down on your furniture at some point in the day. If you have a couch, or love seat sitting in the same area by a window, over time the sunlight can bleach the fabric. If you regularly move your furniture in your house, this may not be a problem for you since the sun won't be hitting the same places each day. Of course, during the summer is when this will be the worst time for your home furnishings.

Ruined Finishes

If you have wooden furniture that is exposed to sunlight for extended parts of the day, the finishes on these items might get damaged. Heat and sunlight will dry out the wood. Varnish and other protective coatings may begin to crack and break as the sun beats down over time. Keeping your wooden furniture moisturized and rotating them can help with their longevity.

Dried Leather

Leather is one of the more resilient types of furniture and can last a long time if properly maintained. Part of the proper maintenance is keeping the leather moisturized. As with wood, leather can become dried, brittle, and cracked if exposed to periods of direct sunlight. Keeping leather furniture completely out of the daylight will help lower how often you need to treat it.

While it may not be possible to keep everything you own out of the sun, you can keep an eye out for when and where you see sun sneaking through the curtains. Taking a proactive approach and moving things around will always help in the long run.

Need a New Fridge?

If you have ever had a fridge go out unexpectedly, it can be an absolute nightmare. I have personally had two go out on me and both times were frustrating, to say the least. If you haven't ever had to deal with this type of situation, consider yourself lucky.

The first time it happened to me, I was living by myself. Other than the fact that I had to empty what few items I had in my fridge, I didn't really have a hard time until I tried to get a new one. At the time, I couldn't afford a brand new model. What I ended up doing was buying a used mini-fridge and I lived like a college student for a couple of months. The only part that was bad during that time was that I couldn't really keep any ice for very long. I did, however, find out that you don't leave a non-working empty fridge close for any amount of time...

The second time I had a refrigerator quit working, I had children and it was an utter nightmare for a few weeks. I had just stocked up on groceries and so I had to go buy several ice chests and fill them with my food in an attempt to keep it fresh. The constant need for ice and the worrying about food pathogens that accompanied was fraying my nerves. I would have just driven and bought one, but I had no way to get it home. I was left to make due until the workers delivered the new one.

What Furniture Color Choice Might Mean

The Psychology of Color

The study of color and how it affects moods and emotions is an interesting subject. Since ancient times, people have used certain colors for many different reasons, from denoting troops on a battlefield to its use in style and beauty. Some people believe that colors can change a person's mood and even make them feel certain things, like Picasso. He was quoted as saying, "Colors, like features, follow the changes of the emotions."

With as much as people have thought and debated about the psychology of color, there isn't much actual empirical or theoretical data in regards to this topic. Skeptics of this emerging field of psychology say that any results from the studies done are anecdotal due to the subjective nature of color in different cultures. Others who study this idea further propose that it's not necessarily the color that has an affect on people's mood, but the idea that the color represents. For instance, here in the US, the color pink is widely regarded as feminine. In some other cultures, both past, and present, the color pink is considered a warrior's color. Because of the personal nature of colors and feelings, the normal scientific rigor gives way to more practical concerns in this field of research.

The Psychological Effects of Color

When it comes to interior design and artistry, color choice is very important because of personal preference first and foremost. You have to ask yourself what overall feeling you want your room to emit. The studies in this area have shown that some color schemes have a wide range of effects. Warm colors can evoke feelings of warmth and comfort but also agitation and hostility. Cool colors tend to instill feelings of serenity and calmness but can also make people feel sad or even indifferent. Each individual color has its own potential effect.

As stated earlier what you feel when you see colors can be subjective. Your past experiences may have quite a lot of bearing toward what you feel when you see a certain color. What one person feels could be tied to a particular moment or string of memories with either negative and positive association

Individual Color Effects

What do you think is the most popular color shade for living room furniture? If you guessed shades of blue, you would be correct. If you guessed shades of brown, that was the second favorite choice. Other contenders were grey, green, and black.  Interestingly, blue is supposed to instill calmness, stability, productivity, and even sadness. Brown, on the other hand, is supposed to represent strength, security, nature, but also isolation.  Green is supposed to help relieve stress. Perhaps that is why guests who are in queue to appear on a TV program are asked to wait in a 'green room.'

Regardless of studies and science, it all comes down to personal choice. The good news is that Ashley HomeStore has a vast selection of colors and styles from which are sure to find the piece that speaks to you. Let us help you make the rooms in your home look and feel exactly the way you want.

Do You Host for the Holidays?

Dining Room Set

Where are You Headed for Thanksgiving or Christmas?

I, myself, have moved into the role of host for the holiday season. Specifically when it comes to hosting for Thanksgiving dinner. I enjoy having most of my immediate family come to visit, however, last year, I was caught off guard. We had so few seats to go around that people had to go outside to sit on the patio furniture. Luckily, the weather was very cooperative and so it wasn't so cold that it was unbearable. Sadly, this meant that everyone was split into two separate groups.  Eventually, after everyone had eaten, we all settled into the living room to play games and watch television. I decided that this year, I would not allow this to happen again so I went and bought an additional table.

I already had a folding card table that I was able to set out the last year so that the younger members of the family had a place to sit and eat comfortably. However, since this card table and the accompanying folding chairs are older, they aren't very sturdy. This fact led to a couple of my brothers making comments about how they hope they don't end up folding the chairs the wrong way. I assured them that they were safe and they wouldn't crumble to the floor, but, when I went to sit in them, I realized that they weren't joking about how rickety these chairs felt. After this realization, I knew I had to do something before the next time everyone came and gathered at my farmhouse.

With the addition of four extra seats, I think that everyone will be able to stay closer to each other. After all, that's what the holidays are about, right? Luckily, this dining room set that I bought is light enough that we can easily carry it up and down from the attic. It's also sturdy enough that I don't have to worry about my giant brothers feeling scared to sit in a rickety chair.

Keep Your Food Fresh Longer

4-Door Refrigerator

Fresh Food Is Always Better

I have to ask a question. How well does your refrigerator do its job? If I answer that same question, I am sure mine isn't performing the best it could. Part of that has to do with the fact that my refrigerator is probably 25 or more years old. But other reasons I think it may not be running as good as it could be is because I did not maintain it well when I first purchased it. When I first bought mine, I had no clue that you need to clean the coils that are located on the back of the unit. Another thing I didn't know about was that your freezer works less, the more frozen items you keep in there. I always had a big tray full of ice that sat there since I don't use much, but other than that, I tried to keep things sparse inside the freezer. You want to keep it full, but you don't want to stifle the air circulation so plan accordingly and make sure the air can move.

As for the refrigerated part of your unit, the same concept is used. If you do not use much room to store groceries and leftovers, you can fill water bottles and use them to help retain the cold air. Remember that every instance you open the door to the fridge, you are allowing warmer air inside. The water bottles will help to keep the warmest part (the door area) of the refrigerator cooler. Another notion you can take is to allow leftovers to cool down before you put them in the fridge. This idea is a little tricky to pull off since you need to worry about bacteria and whatnot, but the cooler the food is, the less strain you put your fridge under. I know it's not always possible to do this, so always use your best judgment when putting away cooked food.

Pierce Furniture Gallery - Comfort at a Discount

Low Prices on Furniture

Pierce Furniture Gallery - Comfort at a Discount

Everyone wants to feel comfortable in their own homes. The origins of the word comfort are based in Latin. 'Com' and 'Fortis' which when combined mean expressing intensive and strong force. This word changed in late Latin to 'confortare' and then later changed to 'confort' in Old French. It wasn't until the middle 17th century that it began to be used as we know it now. Now it means a couple of different things but what we are going to talk about is the noun. What it boils down to is you want to feel a physical state of ease. This happens when all the factors that are in the comfort equation are optimal for you. There is no better feeling than getting exactly what you need for your own comfort.

Of course, comfort feels different to everyone. That's why there are so many different types of bedding and mattresses. What is too soft for one person may be just right for the next. For this reason, if you are going to shop somewhere for what you need in your living room or bedroom, they better have a good inventory. One man's firm is another's just right.

Abilene Furniture Store

We've all been in a situation where what you have just isn't cutting it anymore. The bad thing is that when it comes time to replace an item of furniture in your home, it can be a large purchase. Sometimes finding the funds for a new couch or bed may be tied up. It can be especially hard to get what you need if you end up prematurely needing something. I know that with my oldest daughter, I bought her a child's bed and within a year, she needed a full-sized one because of a growth spurt. Luckily, Pierce Gallery Furniture has low-priced home furnishings for sale in Abilene, TX. If you live in the Big Country area, and you need to buy new furniture, they will have whatever you need. Not only do they have discounted prices on quality brands, but they offer financing options to help you make your purchases even easier. How do You Spend Your Shorter Days?

Get Comfortable Furniture in Abilene

Its almost time for winter. While it may feel like that to some people already, we still have a few months until it's official. This time of the year, the days are shorter and the nights get longer. Since daylight runs out so much faster during winter, most people end up spending more time inside.

Some people like to curl up on the couch and watch TV. Winter is a great time to catch up on your favorite shows or find a new one. With the ease of streaming television, you can watch an entire show's run at your leisure. I recently discovered Futurama and it's hilarious to me. Some people may not be keen on watching tv. They may be more of a gamer and they are able to spend more time playing the video game of their choice. Others may want to find a new book to read or finish that one they've been reading off and on for a bit. No matter how you choose to relax and spend your leisure time, you will need a good place to sit or stretch out. Whether its a bed, couch, recliner or other types of furniture, there is no shame in desiring to be comfortable.

One of the things I have come to love is my electric fireplace. The best part about it is that I get the visual feeling of having a fireplace without all the cleaning, chopping wood, and other work involved in a real fireplace. Some people may scoff at the idea, but I love the fact that I can heat my home and have a relaxing ambiance when I use my electric fireplace.

Pierce Furniture Gallery Taking Care of Game Day!

Game Day Recliner

Pierce Furniture Gallery Taking Care of Game Day!

I guess the first thing I should ask is how your team is doing this year? I honestly don't want to talk about my football team. Not only am I rooting for a team this isn't from Texas, but they are also doing about as well as a freight train driving down a dirt road. If you have been keeping up with other teams who aren't doing too hot this season, you will have a pretty good idea who I root for.

The next thing is something you should ask yourself. Are you comfortable while watching the big games? Whether you sit in a recliner or on a sofa, you have to be comfortable while your favorite team is on the television. I definitely need to be comfortable since its utterly painful to watch my boys perform like they have all season long. At least I know not to make any bet on them this year unless it's against them. I will have to say that the new recliner I bought has been the most comfortable thing I have owned when it comes to furniture. There isn't anything too fancy about it other than smooth motion and absolute comfort. If you are like me and your team is having a tough year, you may want to make sure you have a good place to park when watching the bad news unfold on the small screen.

Recliners for Sale in Abilene, TX

If you need an upgrade to your comfort level, Pierce Gallery Furniture is a great place to shop for a new recliner. A Wide Range of... Ranges!

Gas Range

A Wide Range of... Ranges!

Some people call them stoves and other people call them ovens. I used to do the same thing until a chef I know corrected me. A range is a piece of kitchen equipment that has both a stove and an oven. The stove is the part that is on top and has gas or electric burners. The oven is the part you actually open up and put food inside to bake or broil. These parts are sometimes sold separately, and I am sure you've been in a kitchen that has them in different places. In my house, I have my oven embedded in an outcropping with cabinets above and below. The stovetop is placed separately on the countertop just a few feet away from the oven. Above my stove is a ventilation hood that helps me out big-time when I managed to burn something.

Because kitchen space is somewhat of an issue, many people use ranges instead of having their stoves and ovens in different places. I, honestly don't like having them the way I do. I am patiently waiting for one to break down so I can replace them. I just don't know what I will do with the big hole that will be left if it is my oven that goes first. I supposed I could just leave it in there? Anyway, in my opinion, ranges are the way to go because they have everything you need in one convenient package. While I would have to get used to bending down to place food in the oven of the range, I think I could get used to it quickly.

How do You Wear Out Your Furniture?

The Target...

How do You Wear Out Your Furniture?

I always wondered how my friends would have to buy new furniture so much more often than I did. However, after having two children, I realized it wasn't my friends, but their kids who were doing the lion's share of ruining a sofa. From games of "the floor is lava" to pretending to be pirates, my kids have definitely been a major source of wear and tear on the old living room furniture. It is definitely a bittersweet problem to have because, yes, on one hand, they were messing up some stuff that's not exactly cheap, but they weren't attached to a tablet like a fiend. The days of me yelling at them to be careful and not fall while walking across some couch cushions are all but gone now that my oldest is a teenager. So, I do look fondly back to those days where both my daughters weren't too cool for each other.

Back in my day, we would play games, as well. We, however, didn't live in a time where creeps are so prolific and kids could play outside unsupervised. Things were different back in the late '70s. Creeps were still around, I guess they just did a better job of hiding out or something. Instead of playing pirates on the living room furniture (because my mom would have tanned my hide), we went outside to play. We even took real knives out of the kitchen when we played pirates. My friends and I had a blast because sometimes we would try to get strangers involved and pretend to rob them. It was so fun because they would play along with us and act really scared and give us their wallets and purses before running and calling for help. Those were the days. My friends and I played pirates until we were in our 20s... Just kidding about that. I totally stole that from an older Saturday Night Live skit from the '90s.

School is in and Those Kids Need Sleep

Bedroom Set

Does Your Child Need a New Bed?

Kids grow up so fast. I swear I blinked a couple times and my oldest is in high school, now. With that being said, it is an uphill battle every evening to get that child into bed at a decent hour. I have done everything from removing the TV in her room to making a new rule about no phones after 8 pm. Still, the fight is on as soon as she knows I am even hinting at bedtime.

Of course, teens are still growing and even though they think they are grown-ups. Because of that, they still need to get more rest than people whose bodies are done growing. My youngest went through a phase around six years old where she was afraid of the dark and refused to go to sleep without a fight. Luckily, she seems ready for bedtime except for Saturday evenings. If only both my daughters could get on the same page, how easy life would be.

Having a Good Bedroom Set

Now, I know my oldest is being hard-headed. However, I know that since sleep is important, its best to have a quality bedroom set and mattress so they can get the best sleep possible. Even if your child fights you about getting sleep, the quality of sleep is just as important as the amount they get. My 9-year-old is supposed to get 9-10.5 hours of sleep each night. That isn't going to happen if her bed is so uncomfortable it wakes her up in the middle of the night. My youngest sleeps on a twin bed and my oldest sleeps on a queen size. I really do try to make sure they have a good nights rest since they are back in school. I would be embarrassed if they came home with a note because the teacher thinks they are sleep-deprived.

The good news is that Pierce Furniture Gallery in Abilene has a nice selection of beds and mattresses for all ages. Another thing is that they have financing options. Electric Ranges and Their Benefits

Dinner Time! - Electric Range

Electric Ranges and Their Benefits

If you have ever cooked with both a gas range and an electric range, you know they both have some pros and cons to using them. I would like to talk about my favorite type, the electric range. The reason I have that opinion is that, to me, they have more pros than cons.

Cheaper Price

For the most part, buying a new range will be cheaper is you opt for an electric unit. Typically, a gas range will cost more than its electrical counterpart. This difference in price has to do with the way the heat is delivered. An electric range just needs a heating element and fan while gas needs all kinds of pipes and flues to evenly distribute heat. You also don't need ignitors to light any gas.

Another thing to consider is that if you are switching from gas to electric, it will typically cost less to run the lines you need if they don't already exist. If you go from electric to gas, however, the cost to convert can rise very quickly when running new pipes and whatnot.

Cooking

When it comes to cooking, electric ranges heat up faster and maintain a more consistent temperature. A lot of the newer models have special features like a fifth element that is only used to keep food warm. You also just have to turn a knob to heat things up instead of fiddling with matches or unreliable ignitors. With that being said, it is way easier to regulate the heat of stovetop burners. Nothing is worse than scalded pans.

Part of cooking is the cleanup and, in my experience, it is way easier to clean up an electric stovetop. The oven I have is a glass top and I enjoy not having to remove burners and whatnot to clean.

Safety

The main concern with gas ovens is a leak. With an electric range, you don't have to worry about natural gas leaks or catching your house on fire that way. While you can still burn food in or on an electric range, you don't have that added worry of a leaky line or unlit pilot light. One other thing to consider is that since there are no open flames, its less likely you will catch something other than what you are cooking on the fire. Anyone who has spilled a little grease on a gas stovetop knows how quickly things can become dangerous.

Do YOU Need to Buy a Dryer?

A New Dryer

Do YOU Need to Buy a Dryer?

Anyone who has been inconvenienced by a broken down dryer knows the sacrifice in time it takes to dry clothes the old fashioned way. Even if you choose to go to the laundromat instead of hanging up your wet clothes to dry, you still have to take the time to tote them over there and it still costs you. To me, it's a pretty big let-down when you open up your dryer to fold your clothes and they are still damp. You close the door and turn the dryer back on only to have the same thing happen when the timer goes off again. And that's when you realize it wasn't a mistake on your part, the machine just isn't working. It may not be the end of the word, but it's not fun to deal with a broken dryer.

As with almost all electronics, with time and manufacturing innovations, the dryer has actually gotten relatively cheap. In the 1950s when tumble dryers were gaining popularity, they cost an average of 230 dollars and were only in 10% of American households. The price probably had more to do with that than anything. A lot of families either couldn't justify the cost when the sun did it for free or they couldn't afford it. If you are thinking that price isn't that much, back during the '50s, that would be like paying over $2,200 for one today. While I am sure I could find one that cost that much, it better help me lose weight at that price. The average cost of a modern tumble dryer is $340 in 2019. If you went back to the '50s and reversed the inflation, that amount would be more like 35 dollars. Now that's a cheap washer by today's pricing standards.

In my opinion, there are several ways a washing machine can get you down. You could set aside all the mechanical things that could go wrong and just focus on what your machine doesn't do for you. For instance, if you feel like you are constantly doing laundry, maybe your machine's load capacity has something to be desired. Maybe the cycle for delicates is about as gentle as a fall off a step ladder. Maybe if you are having a bad time while doing laundry, you just need a new washing machine. Having a greater capacity to clean the clothes in your house may help you out in the long run. Let's face it, if you have a washer that is 20 years or older, you may not know what the new ones are capable of doing.

This particular unit has a lot of helpful features. One example is that the spin cycle rotates at 1300 RPMs. What that means is that it manages to get a lot more water out of the clothes due to the velocity of the faster spin cycle. That means your clothes will spend less time in the dryer and more time hanging in your closet. Another bonus that comes with this particular washing machine for sale is the steam feature that helps loosen up stains before washing the clothes. It has an internal water heater and this helps to reduce odor-causing bacteria that most people associate as a negative with front load washers. In addition to all these features, it has a quick wash setting for when you just need to do a little light cleaning for a quick outfit.

This is just one of the items they have to offer when it comes to washing machines and that's not all they have. They also have ranges, refrigerators of all styles, and dryers. If you need to buy a new appliance for your house, they can help.

Furniture for a New House

Buying Furniture for a New House

I remember when I made the jump from renting a house to buying a home. It was a big decision in my life and I look back with absolutely no regret. At the time I was buying, I was scared thinking of all the stuff that comes with it, including the payments. In my opinion, there are good and bad things that go with each one. For instance, when you rent, typically, the maintenance of the house is not your responsibility. The drawback, of course, is that things might not get fixed very fast when you have to wait for someone else to take care of things. The list could go on for a mile, but that's not my point.

When I bought my house, it was bigger than the apartment I had previously occupied. This fact became painfully apparent when I started moving into my new home and realized exactly how much more space I had. There was so much open space in the living room that my poor 32 inch TV was so far away, it looked like I was trying to watch shows on my phone. It took a while, but I eventually got the interior of my home to look and feel like I wanted.

The Search for Affordable Furniture

One of my goals was to get a living room set and a bedroom set that actually matched. Before buying my house, all my furniture had been cobbled together through luck, garage sales, and hand-me-downs. Needless to say, when it came to aesthetics, my furniture was very lacking. With some more luck and a little bit of investigation, I found a place that had everything I needed when it came to furniture for sale in Abilene. I found Pierce Furniture Gallery and it was a good thing, too.

Abilene Furniture Store

When I was looking for new furniture at all the myriad furniture stores in Abilene and I came across a sofa that I wanted at one store. I decided to wait and look around some more and I ended up finding the same sofa with a matching love seat for less than what the original location wanted for the couch alone. Pierce Furniture Gallery is a great place to shop for home furniture and accessories. If you would like to see what they carry, click here to visit their website.

Furniture For Sale in Abilene, Texas

When I moved to Abilene, TX, I heard one person say something that I thought was a funny observation. She said that you can't throw a rock in Abilene without hitting either a church, a bank, or a furniture store. Then she followed it up by saying sometimes you hit more than one. Now, I am not complaining about that at all. While churches aren't typically buying up advertising, the more stores there are in a town, the more fierce the competition should be when it comes to getting people in the doors. What this means for the customer is that there is no monopoly when it comes to providing the area with furniture. Even if there was only one store in the entire Big Country area,  the internet always brings added competition just on its own. However, making a big purchase like a sofa or a mattress without actually trying it out might not be in your best interest. If you were replacing something you owned with the same item, then it becomes less scary to purchase big-ticket items online.

If you want to know how many stores there are in Abilene a simple google search for the term 'Abilene furniture store' will provide you the answer. They will all be listed in the maps section. Now, you can take the time to visit each one and do your shopping that way or you can browse their inventory online, If you like what you see, then you can check it out in person and there isn't that much wasted time.

I know you may not want to take a stranger's word for it, but I have looked around town because my recliner was worn out and needed replacing. I checked around and found what I wanted on the first website that I looked. I was excited and I was ready to buy it without looking any further. Then, uncharacteristically, I thought that I should check out and shop around. I found the exact same brand recliner for almost $130 dollars cheaper at Pierce Furniture Gallery. Needless to say, I bought it there. In fact, I am about to sit in it to comfortably watch a movie. Speaking of which, if you would like to browse their inventory from the comfort of your home, click here. Pierce Furniture Gallery is a great place to find affordable and quality furniture.

Whatever Happened to the Quarter Machines?

The Need for More Bookshelves

My oldest daughter has caught some kind of fever. She's not really sick, per se, she just has recently gotten infatuated with the quarter machines. I am talking about those little vending machines that are on your way out of a grocery store or restaurant. While those things have been around for decades and decades, the prices have gone up quite a bit. You are lucky if you find one priced at 25 cents that isn't full of candy. I have seen some that take up to four quarters to vend you whatever is inside.

She can't seem to pass by one without trying her luck. From stickers and temporary tattoos to slime and those sticky hand slappers, she will put her coins in and turn that handle to get some random things. The problem is that the stuff she gets will sometimes get left lying around the house. I used to be able to easily keep her from being able to mess with those machines. I was the gatekeeper of the quarters. Sadly, though, she has been babysitting and earns her own money. I can think of way worse things to spend money on but I can also think of better ways.

YouTube and the Growing Desire

She has recently started watching videos on youtube where people spend lots of money trying to complete some collection that is inside the machines. Her favorite channel is hosted by a married couple who live n Japan. Gachapon is what it is called over there. The couple who make these videos will even play them for their viewers. At first, I thought it was a little strange but then I realized it's just highly interactive and that's the key to success on that video platform. I am just glad she doesn't want to start her own channel, for now...

In all honesty, I don't mind the fact that my kid is staying young at heart. It is kinda fun to watch her get excited that she got the "rare" one from the machine. She wanted to display her collection in her room and I got her a couple of bookshelves so she had a place to put them. The bottom line is that I am happy to let her stay a kid for a bit longer in a time where kids grow up so fast.

A Couch to Stretch Out Your Legs

Do You Need a New Couch?

When it comes to making a furniture purchase, it can be a little hard to swallow that pill. And by pill, I actually mean that bill that comes when you leave the furniture store after making a purchase. Of course, when you buy a couch or another big furniture purchase, you hope it lasts a long time. Depending on different factors, the items in your home may last longer or less than you hope. From pets to kids, they can put a lot of stress on a couch in your living room. It seems to me that since having kids, between the jumping, spilling, and just overall extra usage, a couch doesn't last as long as before.

I made the mistake of thinking that a three-year-old can handle a leather couch. Now, I know that I won't ever have leather in the living room until all the rugrats are out of the house. I kid, I kid, I love my kids... no, really, I do! Although, I am about to make a new rule that anyone under the age of 15 has to use a sippy cup again. Embarrassment can be a powerful motivator and maybe that will help cut down on spills.

Pets' Effects on a Couch

If you have pets in your house, those claws can do a number on the furniture you buy for your home. I have a couple of cats that come in and out of the house. I am not sure what is so appealing about a couch to a cat. Not just for sleeping, but for clawing, as well. I tried everything to get this one cat to stop clawing up my couch, but finally, I just had to drape a cloth over the side so it would claw it. Still, over time, it managed to ruin the sofa and I had to buy a new one.

I don't have any dogs that stay inside, but I have friends who do and it seems it's a constant battle to keep the dogs off the seats in their living rooms. I had one friend who claimed his dogs were trained o stay off them. I believed him until one day we went into his house after going shopping and when I sat down on the couch, it was warm like someone had been sitting there. I told him and he wouldn't entertain the idea that they disobeyed when he was gone. To make a long story short, I convinced him to set up his game camera and, sure enough, almost as soon as he left, the camera took pictures of both animals making their homes on the couch. Aside from the smell they can leave behind, the claws of any animal can do a number to your furniture over time.
